Former City of Ekurhuleni City Manager Imogen Mashazi is expected to return to the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday, after a frustrating start to her evidence.

Mashazi was grilled about her failure to provide evidence to support claims that she made, including allegations of rape and sexual harassment of staff by suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMDP) chief Isaac Mapiyeye.

The former city manager has denied shielding suspended acting EMPD head, Julius Mkhwanazi from disciplinary action after he was implicated in an Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) report on fraud and corruption.

Mkhwanazi was found to have entered into two unlawful MOUs with companies linked to Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala.

"These things happened in 2023, and you can imagine the amount of work and the emails that one receives on a daily basis, they're too much."

She refuted allegations that she was protecting Mkhwanazi.

"The allegations are unsupported, uncorroborated, contradictory, and false."
