The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has received reports of severe damage in parts of Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga following heavy rains.
A level 2 weather warning was upgraded to a level 4 on Sunday, for severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, hail, and excessive lightning.
Weather forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said roof and property damage caused by large hail was reported over the East Rand and Pretoria North.
He said they've also received reports of rapid flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas, as well as disruptions to traffic due to flooded roads and fallen trees.
"The public is strongly urged to take weather warnings seriously, as they play a critical role in reducing the risk of injury, loss of life or property damage. The impacts clearly demonstrate how quickly weather conditions can deteriorate once thunderstorms intensify."
