Mashatile urges municipalities to prioritise growing local economies for better service delivery

Deputy President Paul Mashatile has urged municipalities to prioritise growing their local economies in a bid to improve local governance and service delivery.
Mashatile closed the South African Local Government National Assembly held in Durban on Thursday.
The event was attended by over 1,000 municipal officials, including mayors, councillors, policymakers, and municipal stakeholders.
He emphasised that local economies should not be neglected.
"Please continue to invest in township economies, foster partnerships with the private sector, empower local SMMES and expand renewable energy projects."
He added that municipalities must also invest in protecting their infrastructure to attract investors.
"Investing in early warning systems and updating infrastructure."
