Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg explained that officers searched a premises in Ottery on Saturday night upon receiving information about a firearm at the address.

A suspect is scheduled to make a court appearance in Cape Town this week after being arrested for the illegal possession of a semi-automatic weapon and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg explained that officers searched a premises in Ottery on Saturday night upon receiving information about a firearm at the address.

"Upon searching the premises, the members found an Uzzi semi-automatic weapon with 99 rounds of ammunition in the house," Twigg stated. "They arrested an adult male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition."

The suspect is set to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court once all formal charges have been processed.
