The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) says no security breaches have been recorded at the G20 leaders’ summit.
The two-day international event kicked off on Saturday morning at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.
With numerous heads of state and international delegates in attendance, the security cluster has been deployed to ensure their safety.
There is a heavy police presence around the vicinity of the venue, with police nyalas and officers positioned at every intersection.
Police have also cordoned off the entire block surrounding Nasrec, conducting thorough checks on every person and vehicle entering the area.
Deputy national police commissioner and NATJOINTS co-chairperson Tebello Mosikili says officers are on the ground to ensure there are no disruptions to the G20 summit.
“We have implemented every detail; we’ve done the dry runs to make sure that what we have planned is implemented. Today, I can take a seat and relax because it’s implementation time but of course monitoring that everything goes according to plan.” Mosikili said.
She adds that intelligence operatives have been deployed throughout Nasrec to monitor the precinct.
