The high-profile trial of alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, was hit with another delay on Wednesday after proceedings were postponed due to one of the co-accused being ill.

Modack and 14 others face 122 charges related to allegedly operating a criminal enterprise, including the attempted murder of prominent criminal defence attorney, William Booth.

Modack is currently under cross-examination regarding his alleged involvement in the attempt on Booth's life.

Defence attorney Inger Jansen informed the court that her client, accused number four, Toufeek Brown, was ill and required medical attention.

"I've just been informed by my client, accused number four, that he is not well at all. I don't want to go into personal details in an open court. However, I'm going to have to request a postponement, and I do request that he be referred to the hospital section."

Brown is allegedly the leader of the Terrible West Siders gang in Woodstock, a gang Modack allegedly used to perform murders, including the attempted murder of Booth in April 2020.

State prosecutor Greg Wolmarans told presiding Judge Robert Henney that Brown needed to be present during Modack's cross-examination due to his alleged link to the attempted hit on Booth.

Judge Henney subsequently postponed proceedings until Thursday for Brown to be medically treated.
