Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube is set to conduct an oversight visit at some schools plagued with infrastructural issues in the Eastern Cape on Monday.
This follows a report by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) that found that almost all the schools that were evaluated in the province have damaged buildings, pit latrines, and no electricity or water supply.

The minister will be assessing two schools affected by the same challenges that were identified by the Human Rights Commission.
The minister's spokesperson, Terrence Khala, said part of Gwarube's visit will include a stop at a school facing delays in the completion of sanitation projects.
"Pellsrus Primary School will see the minister conduct an oversight visit to assess the challenges that previously delayed the completion of sanitation projects while interacting with the newly appointed contractor tasked with accelerating the finalisation of sanitation and infrastructure works under the Sanitation Appropriate for Education initiative. This visit will include a walkabout of the school premises to ensure delivery timelines are fast-tracked and that learners benefit from safe and dignified learning environments without further delay."
