The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed concern regarding the State’s limited capacity to complete some of its largest infrastructure projects.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) met in Germiston on Saturday to explore measures aimed at boosting the economy.

Earlier this year, Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson revealed that over 164 infrastructure projects have experienced delays in the current financial year alone.

Addressing the media on Saturday, ANC NEC member Zuko Godlimpi stressed that an urgent solution is required to address this pervasive issue.

"We need to improve the capacity of the state to deliver on its projects. We are currently sitting with nearly R1 trillion of infrastructure allocation, but one of the major sore points we have is the capacity of local, provincial, and national governments to finalise project readiness so that the amount budgeted for could be translated to projects that are creating jobs on the ground."
