Severe rains, thunderstorms set to hit parts of KZN

KwaZulu-Natal is bracing for inclement weather, as severe rains and thunderstorms are set to hit parts of the province on Saturday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of heavy rains and severe thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds.
The inclement is expected to last until Monday.

Disaster management teams are on standby in parts of the province.
The weather service said that from Saturday until Monday, a cut-off low-pressure system is expected to bring inclement weather in parts of the province.
Various municipalities will be affected with a level 4 alert for heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds, while other areas have been given a level 2 warning alert.
The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) said a cut-off low-pressure systemhad previously had a devastating impact in the province, claiming over 400 lives back in April 2022.
“Disaster management teams are on high alert across the province. This follows the weather warning issued by the weather service, indicating that heavy rains are expected over the weeken,d leading up to Monday,” said department spokesperson Senzelwa Mzila.
Various law enforcement officers have also been deployed to keep watch of the province’s roads.
At the same time, residents have been warned to stay indoors.
