Lesufi encouraged most political parties in Gauteng weary of political instability

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said he was encouraged that most political parties in the provincial legislature had grown weary of ongoing political instability.

Lesufi survived a Democratic Alliance-sponsored motion of no confidence on Friday.

The party had argued that Lesufi should be removed, citing several issues, including his recent decision to disband the crime prevention wardens.

But nine of the eleven parties represented in the legislature voted to keep him in office.

Lesufi said he was pleased that his administration remains intact.

"What has happened here, you have started a new revolution. All political parties that represent the aspirations of our people came together. All political parties that represent the future came together to defeat racists."
