The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal is calling on party members to refrain from using their government positions as a status symbols.

On Friday, party supporters in the eThekwini region gathered at the Albert Park in Durban for the launch of the ANC Friday programme.

The mini gathering is part of the party’s renewal processes, as it seeks to grow its reach in its biggest region.

Ever since KwaZulu-Natal ANC structures were disbanded and reconfigured early 2025, the main focus has been to work on the rebuilding party.

And with it having lost the majority vote in the province and in a number of municipalities, it said programmes like the Friday ANC event is meant to reactivate activism in the party.

“When the ANC talks of a volunteer, it must be someone who is selfless in character, someone who is willing to lose some of what he/she has as an advantage but we are also saying that when the opportunity comes for employment comes let us not forget that they participate and partake,” said second deputy provincial convenor Siboniso Duma.

Duma said although they’re not there yet, the party’s will continue to work on its renewal programme.
