Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has expressed his gratitude to all political parties that voted against the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) motion of no confidence in him.
Lesufi successfully survived the motion in the provincial legislature on Friday, which had been tabled by the DA.

The opposition party had raised concerns over his allegedly unconstitutional establishment of the crime prevention wardens. They also accused him of mishandling issues related to tender corruption at Tembisa Hospital.
Despite the African National Congress (ANC) leading a coalition government in the provincial legislature, nine of the eleven political parties voted to keep Lesufi in office.
Even parties such as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), ActionSA, and, surprisingly, the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) did not back the DA’s bid to remove the premier.
Lesufi believes this broad support demonstrates that parties in the Gauteng Legislature are tired of political instability.
"We are reclaiming what belongs to our people," the premier said following the vote. "We are reenergized to confront the racism head-on. We are tired of racists, and their time is over."
Lesufi maintains that the DA’s motion of no confidence against him was an attempt to settle political scores.
