The Gauteng Health Department announced it will be rolling out regular community outreach programmes in under-resourced areas as part of its broader efforts to tackle diabetes.

The Gauteng Health Department announced it will be rolling out regular community outreach programmes in under-resourced areas as part of its broader efforts to tackle diabetes.

One of these drives was already underway on Friday at the Protea South Community Hall in Soweto to highlight the effects of diabetes.

Dr Gauhelo Molefe, the department’s clinical advisor, stated that health teams were moving directly into communities to boost diabetes screening and other essential health services.

"We go to the communities with our health services as the Gauteng Department of Health, where we encourage and set up health services where screening for diabetes is one of the services that we offer, along with other comorbidities."
