Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has revealed details of an alleged probe into police top brass by the Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo and the national Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola.
Mchunu alleges the pair briefed him about an investigation into the then deputy national Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, and head of counterintelligence, Feroz Khan.
Mchunu revealed the plot against Sibiya and Khan while testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Friday night.
“At one point, national commissioner and Lt-Gen Khumalo briefed me that they were at an advanced stage with the investigation of Lt-Gen Sibiya and also at an advanced stage with investigating Major-Gen Khan.”
Mchunu said he fully supported the probe, suggesting he had no ulterior motive to protect certain individuals.
“I deny very emphatically that I could have been found at any level, even before I became minister of police, to be complicit in criminal activity at any stage.”
