Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu’s chief of staff, Cedric Nkabinde, will take the hot seat when the Parliament ad hoc committee probing police corruption resumes on Thursday.

Nkabinde will give evidence at the parliamentary inquiry, a few weeks after Mchunu’s testimony where he denied allegations of corruption and interference in police operations.

Nkabinde is also expected to face similar questions about his role leading to Mchunu’s directive to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) last December.

Nkabinde has been mentioned several times in the ad hoc committee and how he rose through the ranks from just dealing with case dockets to being appointed Mchunu’s chief of staff.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi had also told the committee during his evidence that he met Mchunu through Nkabinde, before his appointment as police minister in 2024.

At a press conference in October, Nkabinde mentioned his upcoming appearance in Parliament following a police raid at his house and how it left him feeling harassed.

“I contacted my lawyers about this incident and then my lawyers contacted or engaged the ad hoc committee in Parliament, which is sitting as we speak to report this harassment and intimidation because I’m one of the witnesses in that process.”

Nkabinde’s appearance follows National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi, who addressed allegations of organised crime networks infiltrating the criminal justice system.
