The Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF) has condemned a mass shooting at the local taxi rank which claimed the lives of two women.

Seven other women and one man were wounded, when several gunmen randomly shot at a minibus on Wednesday.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

The latest shooting is the fourth such attack at this transport hub this year.

In January, a taxi security guard was shot dead, and seven others were wounded, during a shooting between rival factions within the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA).

Three months later, the association's secretary Mongi Titi was shot and killed at the same taxi rank.

Five months after Titi's urder, Cata deputy chairperson, Mnikeli Mgope became a victim of ongoing taxi violence in the metro.

Nyanga CPF spokesperson Dumisani Qwebe says the community is still reeling from Wednesday's mass shooting.

"When we got the news of this mass shooting, we were very shocked and devastated because we were worried about the people who are using the public transport."

Qwabe is calling for peace within the taxi industry.
