Deputy President Paul Mashatile said the Government of National Unity (GNU) is coherent and working well.
He said there will be no embarrassing hiccups when Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana delivers the Mid-Teram Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) on Wednesday.
Answering questions in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Mashatile said despite challenges over the past year, the GNU has learnt from the February budget bungle that forced Godongwana to revise the budget twice before it was accepted by all parties.
Mashatile said it can’t be expected that it will always be smooth sailing for 10 political parties to work together.
But he said the GNU is committed to its priorities of growing the economy and attracting investment.
“Nobody will keep the country back because there’s something they don’t agree with.”
Mashatile said last week’s GNU retreat was highly productive, and there’s been agreement on the MTBPS.
“We have found one another. So don’t be worried about anything. We have learnt from that experience.”
Mashatile said the GNU’s success should not be measured by its disagreements, but rather its ability to overcome them and move forward.
