Former Police Minister Bheki Cele has revealed that alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala informed him that he was using the police’s procurement processes to help fund Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s African National Congress (ANC) political campaign.
Cele admitted to knowing Matlala, who had a multi-million rand tender with the police.

He said he met Matlala at a high-end hotel in Durban, in December last year, to discuss the matter.
But Cele insists he’s not friends with Matlala.
“Firstly, he said he has met Minister Mchunu, him and Brown Mogotsi, and they spoke about him because he's got money through the tender to fund his project of becoming either a president or deputy president. He didn’t, and myself, I didn’t know what project it was.”
