To address its ongoing financial woes, the African National Congress (ANC) said it’s looking at creative ways to generate revenue and become financially stable.
The party’s financial report has recently been tabled before its fifth National General Council (NGC), currently taking place at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
While the report is confidential, the party’s financial difficulties are not, with persistent late or non-payment of its employee salaries and service providers taking the party to court over unpaid invoices.

Statistically, the ANC is the biggest party in the country, with more members and elected public representatives than any other party.
However, the latest political funding report showed that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) makes more money than the ANC from membership fees and levies.
Levies are chargedto members deployed to represent the party either in municipal councils, provincial legislatures and the National Assembly.
ANC national spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu was asked whether the party considered increasing its levy as one of its strategies to increase its revenue.
“Our public deployees are levied by the ANC and are levied reasonably so that they themselves can be able to feed their families.”
Bhengu said the introduction of the Political Party Funding Act, which required political organisations to disclose their funders, has negatively impacted the ANC.
