Women activists from Overcome Heights in Muizenberg have once again chained themselves to the gates of Parliament, in protest over escalating gang violence in the area.

This is the second time they've taken their frustrations to parliament's doorstep this week.

Several mass shootings have been reported in the Muizenberg area in the past few weeks.

Last week, Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia admitted that the police are lagging behind in their fight against organised crime in the Cape.

A handful of demonstrators from Overcome Heights in Muizenberg are demanding more police visibility to deal with the rampant shootings.

"I had to stop working this morning and run because of shootings. Do you think it's right to live like that? Our children can't go anywhere."

Karin Mentoor said enough is enough.

"Again, bodies are lying in our informal settlements, but no police visibility. We will come to parliament until we die in front of parliament if that is what they want us to do."

The demonstrators are calling for the army to be deployed to deal with the violence in the Muizenberg area.
