Tshwane emergency services are currently battling a blaze that has engulfed multiple shacks at the Sivilcon informal settlement near Sefako Makgato Drive in Derdepoort.
Emergency services say all residents were able to evacuate on time, and no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Approximately 70 shacks have been destroyed, displacing 150 people.
The city says its disaster management teams will coordinate rehabilitation efforts with different stakeholders for the affected victims.
Emergency services spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba says investigations will commence once the fire has been completely put out.
“Firefighting teams worked methodically to contain the flames and manage the intense heat and smoke. At the moment we are still busy with damping down to ensure that the fire does not reignite. Fire safety will do preliminary investigations of what had caused the fire.” She said.
