The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which enters day two on Thursday, is set to be classified into three phases with clear objectives for each.
The highly anticipated commission began on Wednesday at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria, where KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is the first witness to testify.

Mkhwanazi will resume his testimony on Thursday morning when proceedings get underway at 09:30.
Madlanga Commission chief evidence leader advocate Terry Motau said phase one will see Mkhwanazi provide comprehensive testimony.
“He will be asked to detail his allegations in full and present the evidence he has, in the form of documents, communications, reports, etcetera.”
Other witnesses, such as National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola and members of the political killings task team, will also testify in this phase.
Motau said phase two will include the likes of other witnesses, like the Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu.
“This phase is dedicated to objectively examining the allegations and allowing those named a fair opportunity to offer their explanation and to refute the claims made against them.”
He said the third and final phase will see Mkhwanazi recalled, as well as other witnesses, to respond to conflicting accounts, offer additional evidence or context, as well as clarify any errors or omissions previously made.
