One of the men accused of murdering 18 people last year in the Eastern Cape has told the Mthatha High Court that he will prove his innocence.
Mzukisi Ndamase, the alleged mastermind who is legally representing himself in court, is currently cross-examining another suspect turned State witness, Lwando Abi.

Ndamase is accused of ordering a hit on Mncedisi Gijana, who was shot and killed in KwaBhaca weeks before the Ngobozana Village tragedy.
The State in this high-profile murder case has linked accused one, Mzukisi Ndamase, with the KwaBhaca murder of Mncedisi Gijana. Gijana was shot and killed with high-calibre firearms moments after he got home in August last year.
A police ballistic expert testified that the firearms used in his assassination were also used in Ngobozana. During his testimony, State witness Lwando Abi testified that Ndamase also sent him a picture of Gijana’s dead body, saying his chapter had been closed.
However, during examination in court on Wednesday, Ndamase has denied any involvement, saying he was behind bars since 2007. Ndamase, who is legally representing himself, said he would argue that Abi killed Gijana to take his drug territory.
