In the latest on Cape Town taxi violence, a meeting between the Western Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku and warring taxi associations CATA and CODETA is no longer taking place.

This on the eve of an unprecedented 30-day shutdown of some routes in the Helderberg, where the two organisations are in dispute.

The cancelled meeting also follows another shooting, with a 61-year-old taxi boss murdered in Browns Farm on Tuesday.

The 30-day shutdown is already an extreme measure and with more taxi violence on Tuesday, it's unclear what further action authorities can take.

For now, those in charge of regulating public transport and law enforcement are doing what they can to ensure the safety and security of commuters.

From Wednesday, taxi users in certain areas of Khayelitsha, Makhaza, Mfuleni, Somerset West, Nomzamo and Lwandle will be severely affected by the closure of ten routes and specified lanes at ranks.

To mitigate the impact, Metrorail trains will be offering additional capacity.

PRASA regional manager, Raymond Maseko: "We stand ready as PRASA to be able to fill in the gap until the situation is resolved. All of this we are doing it in the interest of ensuring that the breadwinners are not left stranded."

Golden Arrow Bus Services has also been roped in to meet the needs of commuters.
