CAPE TOWN - Illicit cigarettes worth R10 million have been seized in Swelledam.
On Thursday, police received information about a truck travelling from Mossel Bay to Swellendam, possibly to deliver illicit cigarettes to a shop.
The truck was stopped and searched and police arrested a 44-year-old shop owner the following day.
The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday, on charges of fraud, forgery, uttering and contravention of sections of the Customs and Excise Act.
The Hawks say an ongoing investigation will determine the origin of the recovered goods.
