DURBAN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal has made damning claims that its slain councillor, Nhlayenza Ndlovu, was killed because he wanted to expose corruption by traditional leaders in his hometown.
Ndlovu, who was the party’s chief whip in the Umgeni local municipality, was shot and killed in December 2023.
A traditional leader, Inkosi Simphiwe Zuma, and three other men are charged with Ndlouv’s murder.
DA KZN leader Francois Rodgers said the councillor was assassinated for exposing the alleged illegal sale of land.
"This particular case that we’re dealing with, I think it’s more about corruption, corruption in selling state land, corruption in selling electricity and exposing that corruption - I think that is what caused Nhlayenza’s death."
