JOHANNESBURG - Eight Gauteng government departments have achieved clean audits for the 2024–2025 financial year.

Finance MEC Lebogang Maile made the announcement during a media briefing in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Maile said that more than half of the province’s departments received clean audits this year.

He said these included the Office of the Premier, Roads and Transport, and the provincial legislature.

Maile, however, pointed out that not all departments had improved.

He said the Department of Education lost its clean audit status and received an unqualified opinion, while Sports, Arts and Culture slipped further, moving from an unqualified to a qualified audit.

Maile also revealed that 14 of the province’s 19 public entities, such as the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency, and Gauteng Film Commission, achieved clean audits.

"The key issues raised by the Auditor-General on the five entities were non-compliance on annual financial statements because of weak internal controls and lack of adequate management reviews in the financial reporting processes. Three entities were non-compliant with expenditure management and supply chain management prescripts, which led to increased instances of irregular expenditure."

Maile said the provincial treasury would continue working with departments and entities to strengthen financial accountability and maintain public trust.
