JOHANNESBURG - Mpumalanga’s Community Safety MEC Jacie Macie is calling on church leaders across the province to beef up security measures and tighten safety protocols.
This comes after a recent spike in robberies during church services.
The latest incidents were reported in Bushbuckridge, where two separate places of worship were targeted and a third took place during a night vigil in KwaMhlanga.
Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said churches can boost their safety by working closely with police and security officials.
“Identifying the risks and also utilise private security companies in order to monitor their premises during the services and events. He says what happened in these three cases is a clear indication of moral decay in our society. He has therefore called on men and women in blue not to be discouraged but continue to work hard in order to bring perpetrators to book.”
