JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille is expected to initiate the process of appointing a new board at SA Tourism after dissolving the current board.

De Lille announced the sacking of the board on Wednesday with immediate effect.

The tourism ministry said the decision was prompted by the board of SA Tourism convening an unlawful meeting and taking resolutions.

On 1 August, the SA Tourism board convened a special board meeting, but that meeting has landed the members in hot water, resulting in the dissolution of the board.

De Lille has taken issue with the meeting because the board chair, Gregory Davids, had resigned the day before.

The ministry said De Lille had previously cautioned the board against failure to follow governance procedures, which undermines the board’s integrity.

De Lille will soon invite nominations of eligible persons and a person, or a group will be appointed in the interim to manage affairs of the board.
