Gauteng transport MEC condemns shooting of e-hailing drivers at Maponya Mall as 'barbaric act'

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng MEC for Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has described the attack on two e-hailing cars outside Maponya Mall in Soweto as barbaric.
One person died while several others sustained injuries on Wednesday night, after four assailants approached an e-hailing vehicle parked outside the mall’s entrance and opened fire, killing the driver.

The suspects then torched the car before moving on to shoot and set alight a second e-hailing vehicle parked nearby.
The driver of the second vehicle managed to flee after sustaining a gunshot wound.
During the shooting, an onlooker was also shot and was later rushed to hospital alongside the surviving driver.
Spokesperson for the MEC of transport, Lesiba Mpya: "The barbaric act that has led to the loss of life of one of the operators, the MEC calls for law enforcement agencies to get to the bottom of this, to pursue and find those that are responsible for this heinous act."
