Despite African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee (NEC) member Malusi Gigaba confirming that he’s been summoned to appear in court on corruption charges, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) said he has not been charged yet.

Gigaba met with IDAC at their offices in Pretoria on Friday morning in relation to alleged irregularities in Transnet contracts during his tenure as Public Enterprise Minister.

Earlier, Gigaba confirmed on social media that he had been summoned to appear in court.

He said the matter relates to irregular Transnet contracts, which stem from his tenure as Public Enterprises Minister between 2010 and 2014.

Gigaba and his legal team met with IDAC to discuss the allegations against him.

Despite the court summons, spokesperson for the IDAC Henry Mamothame has confirmed Gigaba remains a free man.

“Kindly note that Mr Malusi Gigaba has not been placed under arrest. He is engaging IDAC and there will be no court appearance today [Friday]. IDAC will not be commenting any further on the matter.”

Gigaba has released another statement on social media, saying he’s now been informed that he will no longer be charged with corruption.
