ANC NEC to discuss electoral guidelines ahead of the selection of candidates

JOHANNESBURG - On Saturday, the African National Congress (ANC)'s national executive committee (NEC) is expected to discuss electoral guidelines ahead of the selection of candidates that it will field across various municipalities in 2026’s local government elections.
It’ll also comb through the work of both its officials and the national working committee (NWC).
The NEC, which last met over three months ago, is holding a four-day meeting in Ormonde, south of Johannesburg, this weekend.
The committee is also expected to hear from its integrity commission, after a day deliberating on issues like the economy, the Government of National Unity (GNU), as well as several other domestic and international issues
The ANC is hoping to focus a bit more on organisational matters on Saturday.
This will include going through some of the work done by its top seven and the NWC, as well as its integrity commission.
The ANC said it’ll also discuss both its upcoming national general council and the 2026 local government elections.
With the polls, it's bracing for a battle on the ballot against one of its own this as the South African Communist Party (SACP) maintains that it wants to contest power outside of the ANC.
The party’s secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, said a presentation on the matter will be delivered.
The implications for the alliance and what needs to be done in that regard, so we give guidance to our structures and also guide the discussions that we continue to have.
Deliberations over the SACP are likely to include the issue of dual membership and Cabinet posts.
