JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi to urgently address the issue of illegal street racing in some suburban areas in Johannesburg.

DA said these dangerous street races have caused many tragic incidents, which have resulted in the loss of life.

Some community members in Rosebank have also started petitions in hopes of ending these races.

Gauteng DA community safety spokesperson Michael Sun said the criminal offenders need to be fined, revoked of their driver's licences and put behind bars.

“Innocent lives in Johannesburg's suburbs, including Rosebank, Fourways, and Midrand, are put at risk due to the reckless and illegal practice of street racing. These dangerous races often occur in the early morning, transforming quiet suburban streets into hazardous racetracks.
