CAPE TOWN -The GOOD party in the Western Cape has reiterated its call for the Council for the Built Environment (CBE) report to be tabled before the George Council without delay.
This comes as Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson will be meeting with the families of the victims of the George building collapse this weekend.
The Minister received the final report from the CBE last month, which investigated the conduct of the engineers and what action should be taken against them.
It's been more than 14 months since 34 construction workers lost their lives when a partially built five-storey building collapsed at 75 Victoria Road, burying them under 6 thousand tonnes of rubble.
An extensive search and recovery operation, which lasted for 11 days commenced, and 28 more workers were pulled alive from the rubble with serious injuries.
The GOOD party’s Chantelle Kyd the families deserve the truth, accountability, and closure.
"The planning department must be held accountable where appropriate, and the municipality must be given the opportunity to take corrective action to ensure such a tragedy never happens again."
Macpherson will address the media on Saturday on the outcomes of his closed meeting with the families.
