South Africa’s Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, has died.
Details surrounding his death are still unclear, but there has been official confirmation of his passing.
Earlier today, French media reported that Mthethwa went missing on Monday and his body was found on Tuesday at a hotel.
The 58-year-old was appointed South Africa’s Ambassador to France last year.
In a statement issued a short while ago, Minister Ronald Lamola described Mthethwa’s passing as a national loss.
Lamola said the circumstances surrounding the 58-year old’s death are under investigation by French authorities.
Mthethwa previously served as Minister of Police from 2009 to 2014, before being appointed Minister of Arts and Culture, and later Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture until 2023.
He is survived by his wife and children.
