SASSA officials said that the review process was crucial in clamping down on corruption and preventing the misuse of public funds.
Ward 89 councillor in Khayelitsha, Khaya Gxasheka, said that he understood that not all beneficiaries who showed up at the OR Tambo Community Hall on Tuesday would be assisted due to the large turnout and time constraints.
However, he said that promises had been made to help everyone in the coming days.
"We understand that there are challenges and people of Khayelitsha need these services. Social development started at 8 o'clock today but we believe they are not going to finish all the people, but they are going to service people at their offices."
Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe visited the area to engage with affected social grant beneficiaries.
