The OR Tambo bus accident resulted in the tragic loss of 12 lives and left 45 individuals injured, including the bus driver.

JOHANNESBURG - The driver of the bus involved in a crash on the R21 in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday is facing charges of culpable homicide.

Thirteen people lost their lives when a City of Ekurhuleni bus crashed near OR Tambo International Airport.

The bus was transporting 88 passengers from Katlehong to Kempton Park. 

During a media briefing in Kempton Park on Wednesday morning, officials from the city emphasised that the bus was roadworthy, having been granted a valid certificate of fitness in February.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said that police were investigating. 

"The SAPS has confirmed with us that they have opened a culpable homicide case. The driver has a case registered against him with a case number 257/03/2025."
