Slain Kgaogelo Marota had protection order against her abusive ex-boyfriend, says friend

JOHANNESBURG - The friends of a 20-year-old woman who was stabbed to death allegedly by her ex-boyfriend have lamented over how she was in an abusive relationship.
Lazarus Antonio was arrested last Friday after being identified as a prime suspect in the murder of Kgaogelo Marota in Maubane, North West.

It’s alleged that he killed her, then published video footage of the bloody scene on his social media accounts.
Police said a few hours later, he stabbed his current girlfriend, who survived the attack and was hospitalised.
Matora’s friend, Katlego Magwae, said she had a protection order against Antonio because of a history of violence in their relationship.
She was in court on Monday, where the suspect appeared on charges of murder and attempted murder.
"Initially, he showed her love until a certain point, and he changed and became abusive towards her. She would come to me, telling me that he carries weapons and would force her to do things she did not want to do."
