The family of Ashwin Mouwers is calling on police to thoroughly investigate the involvement of an accused person Mouwers was to testify against.
Mouwers was brutally shot and killed outside the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning.
His brother, Victor Maitland, said that Ashwin was meant to take the stand as the first witness in a murder case dating back to 2021.
He described what happened.
"Four guys appeared from the crowd, with guns. Ashwin stood up and ran towards the court door - the other witness ran towards the shop - and they shot him in the back. And when he fell two, of the shooters went to him, pointed firearms to his head and both of them shot him."
He said police confirmed they had confiscated the phone of the accused who Ashwin was meant to testify against.
The brother of #AshwinMouwers - Victor Maitland - claims the accused his brother was meant to testify against had been busy texting and speaking to someone on a call just moments prior to shooting that claimed his brothers life outside the Lenasia magistrates court yesterday.
