JOHANNESBURG - South African musician Winnie Khumalo has been described as someone who was full of life.
Family, friends and dignitaries gathered at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate her life and her contribution to South African music at her memorial service.
The veteran artist, who was also fondly known as Dwinky Dwinky in the 80s, died last week Tuesday after suffering a short illness.
Media personality Somizi Mhlongo said he had never witnessed the Afropop artist downtrodden.
"Always bubbly and warm and energetic, so if we can celebrate the passing of a person according to how they lived, then let's do that."
He added that there would always be a gap that will never be filled in Khumalo's children.
Winnie Khumalo’s family and friends are gathering at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg today, for the artist’s memorial service.
