Overberg authorities shut road between Struisbaai and Bredasdorp due to veld fire

Overberg District Municipality's Fire Chief, Reinard Geldenhuys, says crews and aerial support are on hand.

CAPE TOWN - Overberg authorities in the Western Cape say they've had to shut the R319 road between Struisbaai and Bredasdorp due to a large veld fire nearby. 

It's causing a lot of smoke, affecting motorists' visibility on the nearby R43 route, which is open for now.

Overberg District Municipality's fire chief, Reinard Geldenhuys, said that crews and aerial support were on hand.
 
"At this stage, there are no structures threatened although it's quite close to the towns and farms."
