DURBAN - The eThekwini Metro Municipality has outlined restrictions on the use of fireworks ahead of new year celebrations on Tuesday night.
Municipal officials said that residents can only use fireworks 15 minutes before midnight and 15 minutes after.
Failure to adhere to the stipulated time will result to a fine worth R2,500.
Mayor Cyril Xaba also cautioned parents to ensure that children were under observation at all times.
"My warning is to people who will be handing fireworks, in some cases people handle them in an irresponsible way, you know how dangerous that is. So, we call upon our people to handle fireworks responsibly, parents must not let kids handle fireworks unsupervised."
