DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal community where a man killed his girlfriend, and son has been flagged as a crime-riddled area.
This was also told to President Cyril Ramaphosa and his cabinet during a presidential Imbizo in the area in November.
On Friday, 24-year-old Mlondi Cele stabbed his girlfriend and their 3-year-old boy before taking his own life in Umgababa.

Some believe police visibility would have long curbed gender-based violence (GBV) incidents.
The Umgababa community in the south coast falls under the Umkomaas policing precinct.
During Ramaphosa’s visit to the area in November, some cited concerns about the lack of manpower and resources at the police station.
When asked about this after the murders, local councillor Arthur Mgobhozi had this to say: “The provincial policing structures are busy working on means to restructure and also to assist those police to be much better.”
While the community of Umgababa waits for this, people continue to live in fear due to crime in the area.
