JOHANNESBURG - The battleground States are still up for grabs in the US elections as Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump go neck-and-neck for a seat at the White House.

Millions of Americans took to the polls in Tuesday's extraordinary vote.

The presidential showdown will either make Harris the first woman president in US history or hand Trump a comeback that will make him the first convicted felon and oldest person to win the presidency.

Even if both hopefuls bag the electoral college votes in their traditional states, the deciders are set to be seven swing states.

This includes North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, and Pennslyvania.

Voters in these states are historically swayed by issues such as the cost of living and immigration policy.

Except for Minnesota where Harris appears to be in the lead in the early election data – all remain too tight to call.

Overall, there are 538 electoral college votes.

Whoever passes the threshold of 270 wins the race.

The vote tallies are expected to continue trickling on Wednesday.
