JOHANNESBURG - A Sekhukhune United football star has handed himself over to police after being linked to the death of a nine-year-old in a hit-and-run incident on Wednesday.
According to police, the athlete’s luxury car crashed into another, killing the young child and injuring another 13-year-old in Tembisa - on the East Rand.
Upon arrival on scene, police discovered contraband in the soccer star’s car - including cocaine, alcohol and cannabis edibles.
Police said he fled the scene before they arrived, prompting a manhunt but later handed himself in.
Sekhukhune United representatives have declined to comment until the club completes its own investigation.
The club’s spokesperson Tebogo Mapinga: “To be honest, we don’t have the full details. Once we do, a statement will be released. So, when we have the information, we will provide it, because at this point in time, there’s nothing more we can say until our team completes its investigation.”
