CAPE TOWN - Supporters of Palestine want South Africa to hit Israel where it hurts, with calls to sanction and boycott the country.
They gathered in central Cape Town on Saturday and marched to Parliament where they handed over their demands, which include a newly proposed anti-apartheid legislation.
Lamiez Ebrahim, who took part in the march, said that sanctions were the only way.
"That is the main thing, hitting them where it hurts and money, to them, that matters. So, we’ve already been doing it for months where we boycotted all of their products and I think that it means that if we all stand united and actually do that, it will have a huge impact."
But South African Zionist Federation spokesperson, Rolene Marks, expressed their opposition to the march.
"False claims of genocide at marches about Israel do nothing to advance peace in the Middle East. Instead, they serve only to divide South Africans, pitting communities against each other."
