DURBAN - A provincial task team is probing the latest mass shooting in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Seven people were shot and killed in the Hlokozi area, in Highflats on Wednesday night.
The seven members of the Khambule family died on the scene.
Police officials visited the area on Thursday, as the community tries to come to terms with the gruesome murders.
KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said, “We’ve established a task team at a provincial level to work with the district to try and follow up on this investigation.”
Although the motive behind the murders is yet to be determined, Mkhwanazi said they appear to have been premeditated.
“There was a total of 25 bullets that were used, 18 cartridges and seven bullet Hase that were found in this crime scene, we are convinced as the police that it was an execution, and it was planned murder. They organised to come and kill this family.”
The provincial government has offered to assist with funeral arrangements.
