CAPE TOWN - After 154 days without load shedding, Eskom says it's starting to implement load reduction due to overloaded networks and infrastructure damage.
On Tuesday, areas surrounding Dobsonville and Jabulani in Johannesburg reported outages for long periods.
Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, said the infrastructure damage was leading to power outages in certain areas.
Mokwena said the overloaded networks were also causing transformers to explode, resulting in a safety hazard.
"So the reason why we are load reducing is because of these localised networks that are overloading and infrastructure damaging because of these overloads and being unsafe."
