JOHANNESBURG - The family of slain environmental scientist – Dorcas Lekganyane – is left searching for answers after she was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her marital home.
On Thursday, police responded to a domestic violence call in Bramley, Johannesburg, where they found the 32-year-old lying on the floor.
Her husband who was also present at the house, has been arrested.
Lethabo Lekganyane said her older sister, Dorcas, was an accomplished scientist who had her whole life ahead of her.

Weeks before her death, Lekganyane was recognised by the Mail & Guardian as one of 200 influential South Africans for 2024.
“She was filled with humility, she was happy, bubbly. She was a light at any given point at any given point. For me as a little sister, she was my pillar and anchor. A happy person who always had solutions and if she didn’t, she knew the exact drink to make, to make it work.”
Lekganyane said the family is shell-shocked that Dorcas was killed in her marital home and her husband is the prime suspect.
“Our family trusted this man with our sister despite the age gap and she had plans and we have no answers despite that.”
Lekganyane's husband has been charged with her murder and is expected to appear in court soon.
