Germiston old age home fire: 1 dead, 50 others evacuated

JOHANNESBURG - One person has died and more than 50 people have been evacuated from Die Anker Tiehuis old age home in Germiston following a fire.
Emergency services responded to the incident after the building caught alight on Thursday morning.
Emergency services have been hard at work in containing the blaze that ripped through the old age home on the corner of Victoria Street and Bruce Street in Germinston.
At least four elderly patients have been transported to hospital for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters on scene seem to have put out the fire but the building remains a no-go zone, as its structural integrity remains a concern.
At least 30 persons have been displaced and have been transported to a nearby school where they are being safely held.
